In 1226 he was beheaded in Almodovar del Rio the Muslim king of Baeza, who was accused of treason by the Almohad by his alliance with Ferdinand III, king of Castile and Leon .

Also, its superb location and the contestability of the walls led to use as a residence of kings Peter I and Henry II, and as a prison, as evidenced by an order of the Royal Council (1491). By 1473 appears for the first time the name of Almodovar del Rio, a name with which you want to refer to its location on the banks of the Guadalquivir.
